Hey guys, if you have a copy of the latest Street Machine mag go to p 10-11, and you will find my Gossy. I got a call from a mate who saw it in the magazine and I thought he was having me on, my wife and I only walked away from our car for about 15min and returned with a drink, little did I know street machine were taking pics of our Gossy. After so many years doing the resto, things like this are paying off, Thanks Street Machine.

Hey Mark, Good luck with the resto, and good on you for letting the fairmont go to good hands before the rust takes them to there painful death. My Gossy was so bad with rust and I lost count talking to panel beaters (old school resto guys) over the phone and they would tell me how good they are till they saw it in the raw, many said "it was too big of a job", "the ship has said with this one", and "yeah I think we can but its gunna cost ya BIG bucks!". As I was running out of phone numbers and traveling just about all areas of Sydney, North Sydney, Western Sydney, South Western Sydney, I spoke to my neighbour and he said "some local guys down the road do restos, they don't advertise but its just two brothers who do restos", so I saw them and they said "yes we can", and the best news i got from them was the cheapest, I saw photos of there previous work, so let them go for it and they did the engine work, got it going and also took it away for the blue slip and passed first go. If this is your first resto can I help with some tips! 1 - Look around, search,,, "find the honest ones" even if it takes months and months. 2 - Patience. 3 - get a fixed Quote,,, allow your fixed budget to weigh up. 4 - More Patience. 5 - Treat the rust. 6 - Don't rush out like I did and buy loose parts off Evil bay. 7 - Get the panel beaters to show evidence of the work they did. 8 - More bloody patience. 9 - Do your research. 10 - Don't do a rush job. I'm no business man, I'm a Boilermaker ( heavy metal worker ) and do some part-time teaching at TAFE, and I never knew much before but after a full resto, but you get to know many people who love to put there hands into your pocket and screw you, as I did too many times because I trust too many people, ( I did put the coupe into other workshops before and it was an absolute nightmare), but during my travels I have met genuine people too, I still owe a big "thanks" to a guy from Tassie, Jon, who is a police officer, I have lost his details and he maybe on this site, but I do know he was on the last (JGS) site. I wish you all the best Mark & all the others with your restos. "It's a great feeling just crusing" Phill.

Hi Phill,
Thanks for the kind words mate! we have just sent our Goss to a panel beater after a couple of years of rust repairs i did myself (floors, scuttle, inner guardsetc.),however he is not moving very fast and i am a bit woried that he is not commited enough to do the work. Since i have taken the car to this guy i have met another guy who we have an XC Fairmont of ours with and he is doing a great job and is very particular so i may decide to get the Goss and take it to him.
You are 100% correct with finding honest and commited people that don't want to rip the hell out of you, it takes time and heaps of patience. I am lucky with parts, i have accumulated heaps of stuff over the years and have a few donor cars so haven't had too many bad experiences with Ebay thankfully...
Have you got progress photos of your car, i would love to see some!! I've got a heap of ours but haven't got a photobucket account or similar yet so i can't post them, hopefuly i will sort something out soon!
Anyway great to talk to you and thanks very much for the advice.
Cheers Mark

Hey Mark I did mention a while ago on this site that I will post some pics, but when I figure out how to do this, I will just do that, but I just need a spare half a day, or I may get some teenager to do it for me, haha. Its one of those things that I want to do but spare time is never around, I would like to put some of our wedding photos up as the was coupe as our wedding car. Cheers Phill.

Hi Lads
In the process of doing my Goss I have found a great bunch of people to do Body/paint, engine, diff, trimming etc. in Melbourne. If you need these services send me a PM and I will give you their contacts.
As soon as I grow a teenagers brain to figure out this Photobucket stuff I'll post finished pics of my Goss.
Cheers
Graeme

It's easier if you have both photobucket and the site you want to download the pic to open at the same time. log into photobucket and chose a photo. Click on it. Now on the page under the photo should be 5 boxes on top of each other with links in them. Right click on the bottom one that says IMG and then left click copy. To put the photo up simply go to the reply topic of the forum, right click, and hit paste. A bunch of code will appear. Hit post reply and fingers crossed the photo will show up in the post. This is a Goss pic I took at the all ford day in brissy last year.
